Both Todd and I sent our Mom's flowers from 1-800-Flowers for Mother's Day this year. Todd got his mom a mixed rose bouquet for $60 which she was thrilled with and they lasted quite a long time. My mom on the other hand is used to getting very big, extravagant (see where I get it from?) bouquets of flowers from clients. Given this, I wanted her to be thrilled with her flowers even in comparison to what she was accustomed to. So, I opted for one of their designer bouquets to the tune of $190! I looked gorgeous online and had all the colors and types of flowers that she loved, so I figured it was worth the expense. My first red flag should have been that even though I was placing the order a week before Mother's Day, the flowers couldn't be delivered until two after Mother's Day! I went ahead anyway and ordered them. The day they arrived, I spoke to her on the and she told me that when she opened the box it was like a steam bath and that the flowers were all wilted. When we spoke two days later, the flowers were dead. When she found out how much I paid for them, she went ballistic! She said that there was no way, even if it had lived that it was worth that much money. When I called 1-800-Flowers to complain I was told by the first person that I spoke to was that the best they could do was give me a $50 credit towards a future purchase. It was hard for me not to laugh at him for this! I asked to speak to a supervisor who told me that he would immediately credit the full amount I paid and send a new bouquet to my mom from a local florist. While the credit did happen, the new bouquet never arrived. I guess the lesson here is that if you're going to order from 1-800-Flowers, stick to their non-designer bouquets! -- Andrea Martini
