I hoped I would never have to write another message like this, but the other shoe has dropped. Alex relapsed for a fourth time yesterday, this time in the bone marrow. She was admitted to Seattle Children's Hospital yesterday afternoon with 70% Leukemia blasts in her blood and will remain there for at least the next week or so, maybe longer. On top of this she has onset Pneumonia and is RSV (respiratory virus) positive. We'll need to take care of the Pneumonia and RSV before we can begin Mylotarg treatments. We're hopeful that the Mylotarg will work as well a second time. After the Mylotarg hopefully gets her in remission we'll need to decide on the next step. Another transplant would be the conventional way to treat this relapse, but I'm hopeful that there might be something else out there. Putting her through another transplant after all she's been through is just too hard to think about right now.
Alex is in Room 336 at Seattle Children's Hospital. The postal address is:
Ms. Alexandra Martini
Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center
PO Box 5371
Seattle, WA 98105-0371
if you want to send a card to her. Just remember no flowers and no latex balloons.
I'll write more when I have more information.
Thanks again to all of you for
over three years of love,
support and prayers.
Todd, Andrea and Alex
