Alex has relapsed for a fifth time. This time she relapsed in her Bone Marrow with 20% blasts in her blood.
She has also relapsed in her spinal fluid (CNS) which means that she can
not be a participant in any drug trials.
There is never a good time for relapse, but this is a particularly bad time for us. Alex's Cobra insurance coverage ended nine days ago, so we switched her over to our insurance coverage. Unfortunately our insurance coverage has a six month waiting period for a transplant. This means that a transplant for Alex will not be covered until January 2003.
We'll be spending the weekend trying to decide where to go from here. There's a good chance we may be trying Mylotarg for a third time in the hopes of buying some more time. Other than that and transplant there really aren't many
It's been almost a month since I updated Alex's site and in that time a few good things have happened. For one Alex was the special guest of a Make a Wish fundraiser at
Cold Stone Creamery (ice cream parlor)
in Woodinville and she had a fantastic time. She spent half of the day
behind the counter putting sprinkles on the ice cream and the other half
dancing to a band out in the courtyard.
We also moved into our new house in Gig Harbor
last week and we're really happy with it. Our new address is:
2504 7th St NW
Gig Harbor, WA 98335
Well I don't know what else to say at this point. Hopefully we'll be able to figure out some way to keep up the fight.
I'll post more as we make our decisions. Take care.
Thanks again to all of you for 3 1/2 years of love, support and
Todd, Andrea and Alex
