December 13, 2002
in at 1 pound, 9 ounces, measuring 13 1/2 inches long and with a full head
of hair - Nicholas Ryan Martini! Nicholas was born via C-section today at
4:46 PM (PST). I was there with Andrea in the operating room when he was
born, which made things a little easier on both of us.
Nicholas was delivered 14 weeks early because today's ultrasound showed that
he was in severe distress. He is on a ventilator and doing fine so far, but the first 24 hours
are usually a honeymoon period. The next few weeks will be a real roller
coaster, but as you all know we're well acquainted with roller coasters!
is feeling pretty good, considering what she went through today. The
C-section went really well and they're managing her pain with morphine.
She'll probably feel the effects of the C-section in a couple of days, but
for now the drugs are working.
Alex is also doing well. She spent the day and night at our neighbor's (Dan
& Nancy Flynn) house, so she hasn't seen Nicholas yet. I plan to take her
over tomorrow morning to see him and then we'll head up to Children's
Hospital for a bath, dressing change and possible platelet transfusion.
Well I need to be up in a few hours, so I better wrap this up. Thanks again
for four years of love, prayers and support. Take care.
P.S. I'll post another
update with more photos tomorrow night or Sunday at the latest.
