Hi Everyone,

Sorry we didn't update earlier in the week. The blood test from earlier this week was pretty much the same as the one on Friday, so I wanted to wait until we got the results from the one today. She is still at 10.1, which is good and not so good. Good because it most likely is not a relapse, not so good because she is likely bleeding somewhere. We took a stool sample and we are still waiting for the results, but do know that she was negative for C-diff. For some reason they didn't test for blood right away, so they are supposed to do that now. You really know that you're a sick cancer parent when you hope that your kid has blood in their poop!!!! But hey, it's better than a relapse right??!!

We are getting very excited for our trip down to California! For those of you that are wanting to see Nick smash his cake, we will be doing that on the 27th at about 1:00. If you're healthy we'd love to see you! Give my Mom a call or send us an email to let us know you're coming.

We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas! Thank you so much for all your prayers and support! This has been such a stressful week and knowing that all of you were right there praying with us has really helped. We'll talk to you soon.

Take Care,

Andrea, Todd, Alex and Nick

Hi Everyone,

Nicholas - December 2002Well, I can't believe I'm saying this, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY NICHOLAS!!!!!!!! I can not believe that our little squirt is a year old! When he was first born it was difficult to imagine him surviving let alone making it to his first birthday in such studly fashion! He is doing fantastic in every way. The only ones more impressed and blown away with him than us are his doctors. He is crawling all over the place, pulling up on things and eating everything in site - as long as it's not baby food! He is such a happy baby and such a challenge! He NEVER stops moving!!!!

Nicholas - Today! My parents came up for Thanksgiving and our friends Brandi and Mike also came over with their new son Brecken. It was so nice to have a "normal" holiday! Since Alex's diagnosis we have had 6 Thanksgivings. This is only the second Thanksgiving that we have been able to spend with family! Being around family and friends on holidays is very important to me, so this was very special.

First Birthday Cake! For Christmas we had planned on driving down to California to see my family since we can't fly commercially with Alex. We or should I say Todd came to his senses and decided to ask (beg) Corporate Angel to bend the rules and fly us down. The thought of three days each way in the car with the kids just kept getting scarier as the time approached. Then, last week Alex gave us a good scare and started into one of her puke-n-poop fests. This is really nothing new as it happens about once a week. But this time, she was pooping blood. We have no idea what caused the blood in her stool, but do know that it scared the living daylights out of us. Luckily, we were able to get the vomiting to stop and the diarrhea slowed down as did the blood. We were packed and ready to head out the door to the hospital. After this, we really thought about how much of the drive would be through remote areas. If anything happened and we needed a hospital quickly, we would be out of luck. Todd went ahead and called Liz at Corporate Angel and told her what was going on and she said that she would see what she could do. On Wednesday she called us back saying that we had a flight! We will be flying down on Dec. 23rd and returning on Dec. 30th. We will be having another smashing of the cake party while we are down there. We don't have a date yet, but you can feel free to call my mom and harass her about when it will be!!! Hehehe Love you Mom!!!

Nicholas Loves His SissyYesterday we took Alex in for her normal monthly hospital visit and blood test. Everything looks good except for her hemoglobin. Back on Nov 7th it was 12.8 which is fantastic, yesterday it was 10.1 which is low. We don't know why she has suddenly had such a significant drop, but given our history the first thing that we think is that she is relapsing. We are terrified at the moment and it's going to be a long, long weekend. We will be doing a CBC on Monday or Tuesday and if it has dropped more, then we will do a bone marrow aspirate. We have always tried to stay positive, but it is getting really hard. We are running out of cards in our hand. Please pray that this is not a relapse, but a fluke or something that is easily treatable. We will let you know as soon as we find out any more.

Thank you for all your prayers and support. We would not have made it this far without all of you. We'll talk to you soon.

Take Care,

Andrea, Todd, Alex and Nick
